About Me

Hello! I'm Anna Hoss, a Fashion Design student at Derby University.

Hello, it's me, lovely to see you here! I'm an Austrian fashion design student in the UK. I love to explore different places. I lived, studied and worked close to Florence and now I'm in England. And this is how I grow in my design skills, by appreciating others cultures and various understandings of art.

Art is a way of expressing myself, that can surprises me sometimes. My art is fashion design! To style or design for someone is like drawing a picture. The person is my canvas and all the garments the colours. I want to bring the best out of the canvas. So, for me the best part in the morning is getting dressed. In primary school I took the word dressing up to serious and I event got told off for my colourful crazy appearance, I didn't cared. But, only a view years ago I thought about following my passion and making my profession out of it. That was the best decision. I love it!

INSPIRATION

Surrealism Beyond Boarders!

Surrealism: A Movement Developed Between Two Wars. Created to give hidden feelings, dreams and trauma an expression. Breaking free emotionally from a repressive society. Visual artists, both women and men, translated their feelings into paintings, mixing real and unreal. History shows me that there is a need for emotional communication. Nowadays, we mask our true emotions to blend in with society rather than being able to express our true self, so as to not be viewed as “too much”.

Translated to my collection, I assign the face as an emotional interface between two people. I show this with a Surrealist face print, showing there is no "correct" way to express emotions. That's what makes it fascinating: No right or wrong. I added optical illusions to increase this element of uncertainty. It causes different reactions and feelings in the viewers' eyes. That's why with this collection I don't look to please anyone. Make of it whatever you will.

DETAIL

What's there to see here?

It is important to me that the materials bring originality into the collection. All knit and print pieces are my own original designs. Each print and knit pattern is individually composed and a representative of the concepts underlying the collection. These patterns are designed with the idea that you can see them as individual pieces of art.  To design something is very personal to me, most pieces are an expression of myself. This becomes most evident in the prints, for which I used my own face. The inspiration comes from several surrealist artists, such as Bridget Riley. Each face print, is a translation of my own emotions.
