Amelia Rose is a womenswear fashion design graduate from Northumbria University, specialising in pattern cutting. Her work blends a range of technical skills with emotional narratives, providing a unique humanistic perspective. She also received a mentorship from River Island, which deepened her understanding of the fashion business, its structure and roles.
During my time at university, I became immersed in the fashion world and recognised the persistent stereotypes surrounding women, which leads to boundaries and insecurities. My work aims to portray the multidimensionality of womanhood through a raw and honest lens. I believe in celebrating imperfections as focal points of beauty creating an emotional connection with our identities. I focus on using shape and silhouette to communicate ideas and emotions offering an alternative stance - a space for freedom and truth. This collection is an ode to the female experience a celebration of honesty.
INSPIRATION
Whether through headlines, social media or stereotypes, women are often seen through a filtered lens that imposes unattainable beauty standards. Those who defy this narrative face ridicule and feel out of place, trapped within their own skin. Boxed in by falsehoods, it's time to reveal the parts we hide. We must address the unspoken pressures and our desire for freedom. My goal is to remove the filter and embrace the truth of who we are, with all its complexities.
I believe the marks on our bodies from bruises and moles to scars and creases make us and tell unique stories that shape who we are. Many of us feel shame about our bodies, a sentiment ingrained in society. To challenge this, I explored skin textures and their movements, highlighting imperfections to disrupt accepted norms and redefine beauty. Elements like shape, materiality, and print were crucial in my collection, fostering a new connection with our flaws and encouraging strength in discomfort.

DETAIL
Body Bound consists of three looks that expands into a complete six-look collection. I designed and created this collection to empower women in their vulnerability and challenge societal beauty standards by transforming marks often considered ugly (such as bruising and skin texture) into focal points of beauty filled with rich detail. The sheer fabric represents the urge for freedom to show our inner selves and expose our truths, while being met with resistance from a society that still binds and confines us. This collection features three prints created from abstract bruise paintings. Two of these prints are included in Look 1, while the last one becomes the focal point of Look 3. Look 2 addresses texture and body insecurity through fabric manipulation, conveying the lumps and bumps of our bodies as they twist and bend. Lycra is the main element of Look 3, evoking feelings of being trapped and suffocated, with seams reshaping the body and contouring around curves. This collection speaks to the defiant.
