About Me

Menswear design graduate from Leeds Arts University

Having explored different paths within design during her time at university, Mimi became most drawn to menswear. From winning a live project brief industry placement at Clothsurgeon Saville Row, to being chosen to showcase her graduate collection down the runway of the Debenhams x GFW25 Catwalk show.

After exploring many options and paths within my years at uni, it was the strong masculine silhouettes and details of menswear that led me down this path. Influenced by personal heritage, i love incorporating family history into my collections. For me, it’s the personal ones that make designing so enjoyable and rewarding.

INSPIRATION

TACTICAL THREADS 25'

For my graduate collection, I wanted to keep my love of personal heritage alight, and begun searching through my dads old images from his time serving in the RAF. I became captivated by the uniform detailing, which led me down the rabbit hole of exploring British military uniforms as a whole. Being a big lover of detail, making this a focal point in my collection was key. I was fascinated with the precise functional details complimented by utilitarian hardware.

My inspiration for colour rooted from the historical, neutral tones used widely in military operations, I set on army greens and greys for the foundation layers, underneath a contemporary shade of neon lime flowing through the collection. I wanted the fluorescent tone to juxtapose the idea behind the traditional subdued tones of military uniforms. This collection is a tribute to my father's service and an exploration of the evolving relationships with functionality, heritage and modern silhouettes.

REVERSE APPLIQUE TECHNIQUE

The idea for creating my own version of camouflage was to challenge its initiative of disguise. I experimented in ways that I could use this in conjunction with my contemporary colour palette, and settled on a lime green lining. within the camouflage holds layers of greys and deep greens, creating depth. Amongst the appliqué details also features hidden pockets. To carefully cut through each layer made the garment one of the most time consuming to construct.
