About Me

Hi, I'm Amber a Fashion Design Graduate from Liverpool John Moores

Amber is a fashion design graduate, who specialises in contemporary streetwear and sportswear design with a focus on innovation and functionality.

Having a keen interest in the idea of hybridity, as it is what I believe often leads us to the future, within my work, my inspiration frequently stems from niche apparel, with a sports-style aesthetic, from the past. I love to then fuse these ideas with modern-day street/sportswear and technology to create innovative designs. I am always keen to seek new avenues of inventive ideas which I enjoy developing, experimenting with and bringing to full ranges. My technical drawing skills also allow me to take my initial concepts from design ideas to complete technical packs.

INSPIRATION

"PHOSPHORESCENCE as they used to call it..."

Incorporating bioluminescence, "or Phosphorescence as they used to call it", with streetwear and sportswear to create a technical collection inspired by the early underwater divers of the 1900s... My final collection delves into the concept of technicality and technology, taking inspiration from the emission of light within water with reference to deep-sea diving suits from the past. I wanted my final collection to have a futuristic sense to it, with a contemporary consumer in mind.

Within the bioluminescence aspect of the collection, I took inspiration from both the ideas that bioluminescence can act as a product of survival, as when objects move through the ocean they can cause bioluminescent organisms to flash, and also the way in which it is a reactant that creates a product, the emission of light.

DETAIL

The incorporation of SMART TEXTILES

In order to correspond with the theme of bioluminescence, within my technical final collection, I decided to focus on smart textiles in the format of LED lighting. In terms of the mechanisms of bioluminescence, as the waves break on the shore or bare feet step into the wet sand this acts as the reactant, which results in a bright blue glow appearing, the product. I transferred this concept into the detailing of the tracksuit pants in 'Look 6', whereby a push switch is situated beneath the stirrup of the jogger which, when stepped on, acts as a reactant and results in the showcase of lights between the folded fabric in the legs of the tracksuit pants. Additionally, the detailing of the folded fabric is inspired by the atmospheric diving suits of the late 1800s which mimicked the structure of the human body.

"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do." - Pelé
