About Me

Hi, I'm Alicia, a Contour Fashion graduate from DeMontfort University.

As a contour fashion student, I specialise in the intimate appareal industry, specifically lingerie and swimwear. My FMP collection is a display of bridal lingerie and nightwear that can be worn from the wedding day throughout the whole honeymoon period, a perfect mixture of lingerie and nightwear garments that can transition from day to night.

With a great interest in delicacy and intimate details, I find the process of pattern cutting and the development of creating complex pattern peices an enjoyable and fascinating process. When seeing the end result and all the hard work that goes into it, the accomplishment becomes overwhelming. Innovative sustainability is also an interest of mine and is engrained throughout this project, being a core in all the designs in this collection, influencing the fabric and componentry chooses.

INSPIRATION

Wedlock - a bridal lingerie and nightwear collection.

For my final project, I based my collection around the bridal industry. With a high influx of wedding ceremonies happening this year, due to ceremony cancellations during lockdown, there is currently a high demand for bridal lingerie. I wanted to make a collection that gave brides the option to have beautiful lingerie and nightwear for there special day with comfortability at the forefront of all the designs. Sustainability also being a key feature of this project, with the use of deadstock fabrics.

My inspiration for this collection stemed from the theme of onions. I really looked into the inner details, analysing the onion as a whole and then dissecting and taking a deeper look under the skin. This inspired the overall look of the collection, the juxtaposition between the bright purple of the skin compared to the pure white colour of the insides, influenced the idea of using sheer fabrcis panels with strong seam lines to represent the differentiation of the onion.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Hand pleated fabric manipulation details.

This collection features a variety of different fabric manipulations. After completing market research and a catwalk analysis of bridal wear, fabric manipulations stood out as an interesting way of adding detail while keeping the delicatness needed in bridal wear. Throughout the sketchbook and design development process, the use of fabric manipulations was explored and fully develop to understand how I could make use of this in my garments. This led me to develop the use of pleating and explore how this could fit into the overall style of my work. Hand pleated panels feature in each outfit and add a detailed delicacy into the garment. These hand pleates were originally curated on the mannequin, pinning into place around the curves of the breast., then transfered off the mannequin into the garment. This then inspired the remaining outfits in my collection, which featured pleated side panels on a basque, a gown with pleated sleeves and a dress with a pleated neck detail.
