About Me

Hi, I'm Alexandra a graduate from BHSAD

In her collection "Beyond Skyline" Alexandra was inspired by the culture of Altai shamanism, as well as by the search for an answer to the philosophical question about the possibility of the soul's journey. The collection has a bright, rich palette with airy draperies and embroidery details.

"My concept in the collection is the image of a guide to other worlds, passing the test to reach the path and pass through the barrier. This philosophy of goal achievement, improvement through a thorny path of trials," says Alexandra. "The theme of shamanism was taken as the starting point in the presentation of this image, since it is the shaman who is one of the spiritual guides".

INSPIRATION

My initial idea began with the philosophical question "What is the human soul?"

I began to ask the question of what the soul is and about its capabilities earlier, even during the quarantine in 2020. The idea that a soul, perhaps free from any earthiness, can move and travel, interested me very much in the philosophical part, therefore it became the starting point of development my concept. In my understanding, the soul can exists, perhaps even as kind of energy, that can move and travel through different spaces that are invisible to human eye.

DETAIL

The soul is a white canvas, which is influenced by the environment and, as it were, leaves colours.

When I was creating the color palette, I was going to apply color to clothes with spray paint. The idea is that when a traveler moves from different worlds, his soul absorbs some shades from each world. Also, to get silhouettes that will reflect my concept of the collection, I took photos during my "dance of the shaman", and then after some improvements came to the final designs. One of the goals was to create a modern collection, but with some details of hand embroidery and weaving of fabric, which comes from the theme of the shamanism.

"One day our long journey will come to an end and we will reach the final stage of enlightenment, where everything is possible" (Michael Duff Newton, 1994)
