About Me

HI! I AM ALEXANDRA A GRADUATE FROM UNIVERSITY OF EAST LONDON

I am a fashion designer interested in mindfulness, healthy and sustainable way of living. I am convinced that taking care of yourself means taking care of the planet too and therefore making fashion sustainable brings an exciting new approach to explore.

In my final collection I looked at 'ABSURD EXPECTATIONS SOCIETY PUTS ON WOMEN AND HOW THEY DRESS', and tried to show how the illusions people have, have been used to judge women and expect them to behave and dress in an absurd way. I connected this topic to sustainability by upcycling all the garments.

INSPIRATION

CONCEPT INSPIRATION: WOMEN BEING SELF CONFIDENT AND MINDFUL AND HOW IS SOCIETY DESTROYING THAT

Ever since humanity can remember women were always judged by their appearance or by the way they dress. No matter what women wear they will always be criticized by others. How is one supposed to understand how to look after all? To be good enough, pretty enough, feminine enough, but strong at the same time. There is no wonder women and girls suffer from mental health issues up to the point of having eating disorders or completely renouncing their natural look to become someone who they are not.

DETAIL

I EXPRESSED THE CONFUSION BY CREATING A COLLAGES, WHERE I AM MIXING 4 ELEMENTS OF WOMEN’S WARDROBE.

All the outfits mix 4 styles: sporty, like-queen, seductive and masculine style. Because I was mixing clothes in an absurd way I decided to use existing garments, upcycle them and therefore promote sustainability in fashion as well as bring awareness to an important issue - mental health of women and how society perceive their appearance.

The reality we believe in, is from a big part, illusional and therefore it is important to recognise what concepts do we believe in next time we are going to judge someone based on their looks.
