Inspired by the world of social media, the ever-growing interlink between social media platforms and the fashion industry has inspired me to focus on the advantage of social media as a young professional entering a creative industry.
Throughout my university journey I have focused on social media and how I can utilise it as a creative tool. In my final major project I focused on combating the negative effects of social media platforms. I found a gap in the fashion industry specifically the fashion department at my university when merging social networking platforms and sharing student work. I felt there was a need for a positive space that encouraged students to share organic, creative work away from modern day social media platforms that are filtered and fake.
INSPIRATION
Initially I was inspired by my own positive outlook on social media platforms. I have never viewed social media platforms as a negative, and only viewed them as a place to express creativity and self branding.I wanted to use my positive relationship with social media to expand my knowledge surrounding fashion promotion within social media. I particularly focused my attention on the influencer marketing movement when understanding the relationship between fashion and social media marketing.
My positive outlook surrounding social media platforms lead me to my final concept for my FMP. After doing primary research targeted at the students on my university campus I realised my positive outlook on social media was not very common amongst the fashion department. My aim was to create a platform that allowed creative students to share work and feel confident by building a safe community that encouraged and supported those posting work.
DETAIL
My biggest highlight of my studies was creating my FMP. From the early stages of pitching my concept to the end product this assignment pushed me and allowed me to use my skills surrounding social media in a way I haven’t before in my degree. ‘Creatives’ is the social media platform I made for the fashion deportment of my university. The application sets out to create a safe platform that differs to modern day social media platforms. A place where fashion students can share their creative work without the fear of judgement and harassment online.
