Born in Malaysia. During her time at USW, she spent half of her degree in University studios and another half online, fully digital from Malaysia. Before specialising in Fashion, Aisyah also studied Art & Design. This fueled the influence to create fashion that is intricate. Also, her empathy with nature underpins her design vision.
Aisyah Mazlan is a multidisciplinary creative designer, building a contemporary fashion in the modesty world. Her strength is being meticulous especially when it comes to materials and construction. She focuses on quality over quantity by creating an emotional connection towards her pieces. Her work is a concept spawned by the collective mind of the inspirational women around Malaysia. Strong independent women living different lives and cultures, showing different perspectives of femininity. Reflecting all women AM gives freedom and is intended to be a unique complement to an individual style.
INSPIRATION
Nature has been my biggest inspiration. Began with a simple question, what does our planet looks like from the perspective of migrating animals? delving into the point of view of animals while migrating during this current age. Animals, from insects to whales, move across the world and witness the damage created by humans over these past decades. From oil spills and plastic waste, and drought caused by human exploitation of the earth change the textures, colours and shapes of the landscapes.
These problems impacted the animal in so many different ways. My collection aims to remind us of the urgency to empathise with nature and to start seeing the world through the eyes of some incredible creatures we share this world with. This collection serves as a reminder of the beauty and fragility of our planet.
DETAIL
This collection consists of 6 outfits inspired by animal migration in the Anthropocene, experimenting with prints, textures and colours such as marbling, indigo dyeing and quilting. For this film, I focus on contextualising my collection and demonstrating how I can use digital, physical and conceptual approaches to fashion all together. This helps people to understand the message fully and be able to delve into the point of view of animals migrating in the Anthropocene, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment. Apart from that, I have collaborated with incredible individuals along the way in this project, from Malaysia and around the UK.
