About Me

Hi Hi, Im Aisha! a fashion photography graduate from leeds arts

Aisha Mohiddin is a fashion image maker and art director based in Leeds and London. I’ve been often been described as a person with my head in the clouds and I love to daydream. This naturally translates into my creative practice as my images tend to be escapist as I like to create whimsical realities seperate from our own!

For me art direction and photography go hand in hand as it allows me to create very narrative driven work from behind the camera. My project titled "Honey! I turned into a cat!' is a series of editorials all based around the idea of having transformed into a cat, through the medium of self portraiture. I combine both studio and location settings and use elements such as styling, make-up, and set design skills I've developed throughout my studies to bring this idea to life seamlessly.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration comes from my own experiences as a nerodivergent person and daydreaming

My Project is a playful and satirical exploration of capitalism, inspired by the self portraits of Nadia Lee Cohen In "Hello my name is". I wanted to create a humorous and surreal set of images in which I depict myself in various cat-like positions and participating in various cat-like activities.

This project is inspired by the phrase “I wish I was a cat” it's a statement that I hear a lot both in real life and social media. It’s something I’ve even said after looking at my own cats sleeping. In my opinion this is a result of the late stage capitalist society we are living in as people are exhausted, overworked and overwhelmed. Wanting to be a cat can be seen as an escape from having to participate in a society that seems to be falling apart, as cats are taken care of and live freely(ish)

DETAIL

"Honey! I've Turned Into A Cat!"

Cats are unapologetically themselves- cute, weird, fun and elegant. These are the energies I tapped into within my project. I aimed to play three different breeds of cats like I was playing different characters. The Bengal cat being a little wild, and alert; The Black cat is mysterious and aloof; and the Orange cat being mischievous, and friendly. All of them charming, and all little bit weird! I styled a distinct outfit for each cat showcasing their different personalities.
