About Me

Hello, my name is Adjoa, please feel free to take a look.

As a black British female designing for men, I take inspiration from my culture and my surroundings, especially people in my life who inspire me such as my parents. I also enjoy experimenting with my cultural fabrics through the use of offcuts.

As a menswear designer my goal is to create menswear pieces that men can feel comfortable in, and create pieces that reflect topics of importance such as male mental health.

INSPIRATION

MEN.tal health...… Exploring mental health through the male perspective

'MEN.tal Health' a collection inspired by my heritage as a British Ghanaian woman, while looking at male mental health and how they communicate their emotions. The main focus is on the use of fashion as a way of attempting to understand the issues that males face on a daily basis. From a personal standpoint the exploration of my culture influenced the use of ceramics as this material is an integral part of my parent’s history.

The combination of my culture and mental health is reflected through the fragility of the ceramics and the large silhouette that society expects males to portray. I found mental health from a male perspective interesting in relation to my culture and why people don't talk about it.

MEN in mental health...

Just because its not talked about doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I live in my own head and it all makes sense to me. - Tyler The Creator
