Tomiwa was inspired by the reasons that people dress, their styling and how it changes over a person's lifetime; capitalising on her mother as her muse she created a collection using upcycled denim.
My message is to encourage people to embrace their inner child. Growing up doesn't mean we should let go of our childhood, but instead hold on and embrace our memories. They are what makes you the person you are!
INSPIRATION
Denim can seriously tell a story. Each crease, tear and wear line captures memories. I used denim as my textile because the time we all spend wearing denim is no secret throughout our childhood and our adulthood. This eventually shows and becomes a personal fingerprint to the person wearing them.
The patchwork idea was birthed from God saying in Exodus 28:15,16, “It is to be square – a span long and a span wide." I knew that a collection of tiny outfits would not suffice for my concept in its entirety. So I decided to apply the concept into my work exploring how I could incorporate the patchwork into my designs effectively.
DETAIL
it truly reflected the vibrancy of my colour selection used to screen print on my garments. I really wanted a location that reflected self expression and created a fun and wholesome environment to showcase my collection as well as revealing each models’ inner child.
