About Me

Hi, I'm Salvatore a graduate fashion designer from istituto Marangoni.

Salvatore was inspired by 30's and 80's tailoring exploring the rules of pattern making to create a contemporary aesthetic.

Harmony and contrast are the main source of inspiration. Contrasting ideas and values can create an interesting balance when they face each other with an open mind. Changing your perspective is also a source of inspiration and eye opening moment.

INSPIRATION

My initial idea was to revisit classic men's outerwear.

My research started in revisiting the general idea of good and evil in cinematic culture, more specifically Italian-American. Simple moral doesn't work in movies that touch the theme of gangsterism. In many ways it can be seen as a parallel to the American dream: people from a poorer class who manage to establish a high position in society and great wealth.

Although their position is obtained by illegal means and movie viewers expect criminals to fail, these villains are sympathetically viewed as victims of circumstances. This gray moral area is fascinating and a source of inspiration.

DETAIL

The project explores experimental silhouettes with elements of men's tailoring from the 30's and 80'

The main goal of the collection is to show an attitude, to use memories and future visions in harmony to create a contemporary aesthetic. Puzzles of shapes from the gangster cinematic imagery make up the details of the collection. Perforated glasses, razor blades, cuts become an integral part of the clothes themselves. The fabrics, a mix of classic elements such as shetland knitwear, striped poplin and wool combined with other more technical ones, such as herringbone-effect printed denim, waxed cottons, nylon gabardine and lycra, have rough and worn-effect finishes as their common denominator.

I want to create an interesting product, exploring the possibilities of men's patternmaking.
