About Me

Hi, I'm Sadia a graduate from University of Derby

Sadia was inspired by her Pakistani heritage in her collection, which also highlights the idea of women empowerment. She used work wear silhouettes to draw attention to the idea of empowering women.

Being a British Pakistani has allowed me to merge both cultures together to create my own style. My aim is to be able to showcase my heritage and to also empower women.

INSPIRATION

My initial idea started from me feeling that my heritage is not showcased in the western world.

I took inspiration from western work wear as office jobs are very male dominated as is my culture. So, throughout my collection, I wanted to empower women and make them feel strong, powerful, confident, and independent when they wear my garments.

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I used traditional Pakistani handcrafts for my work.

I wanted to be able to showcase my rich heritage using the traditional heavy embroidery used on Pakistani garments. I explored different ways to keep the tradition alive whilst ensuring my designs were contemporary. I played around with ideas that have not been done in my culture. One of the ways I did this was by having the hand embroidery to be done on a lightweight wool fabric. I tried contrasting colours together. However, this looked too traditional therefore, I decided on keeping the embellishment colour the same as the fabric colour as it gives it more of a modernised look.

She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.
