About Me

I'm Ruth, a menswear design student, from Winchester School of Art

I am a graduate fashion designer, specialising in menswear, from Winchester School of Art. My research focuses on functionality, masculinity and sustainability for the modern man. Inspired by vintage motorsport, my final collection, 'The Bugatti Boys' brings back nostalgic feelings of excitement, adrenaline and the need for speed.

It is my aim to provide sustainable, affordable, inter-seasonal clothing for the modern man.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration came from visits to Brooklands Museum and studying vintage Racing attire.

The initial inspiration for the collection was mens vintage motorsports, with research visits to Brooklands and Beaulieu. I studied authentic race footage from the 1920s to get a feel of the atmosphere and energy the drivers would have felt, alongside original photos. Alongside this I conducted garment studies, looking at details on garments such as Vintage driving coats, racing suits and trousers. Looking at heritage fabrics inspired me to combine modern design with a nostalgia heritage feel.

DETAIL

Refining the details....

A key detail in my collection is binding on the inside of the garments. The inspiration behind this is related to the idea of  lifting up a car bonnet to see what lies underneath. The yellow binding and green lining represent the colours of Brooklands Museum.
