About Me

Hey I'm Rebecca, a fashion design postgraduate from Nottingham Trent!

Rebecca Froggatt is a fashion design creative who focuses on innovative and new ways the future of fashion can be sustainable. Her former research has explored creative techniques by designing GENDERLESS, OCCASIONLESS, TIMELESS, SEASONLESS garments. Her latest collection was the winner of the sustainability award at the Fashanne awards 2022.

I have studied Fashion design for 5 years and throughout this time explored many different design styles and innovative methods within my years as a progressing designer. Over these years I've become more aware on the negative impact the fashion industry has on our environment and I felt in my final year of University, I wanted to try and make a difference within my designs. I have been inspired by the idea of having a minimalistic limited wardrobe that's inclusive, whilst still expressing personality and creativity within it.

INSPIRATION

WHY AM I MAKING A CHANGE? The history behind my motives.

Noticing how most of my childhood memories were outdoors in nature or on vacation by the coast, I reflected on the negative impact the fashion industry has on these places that are crucial for human life, including the ocean and woodland area's which are vital for our oxygen and for us to even exist as human beings. I thought about how neglectful we can be in regards to fashion and clothing, and felt my focus for making a difference was to limit consumption, and raise awareness to climate issues.

I felt it was my responsibility to design garments which hold sustainable attributes yet remaining timeless and high quality produce. In my final major project at NTU, I designed a range made up of 90% dead-stock fabric sourced locally from Paul Smith Nottingham, this was to put good use to high quality waste in order to prolong it's life span. The garments were also interchangeable and adjustable within the collection, creating a limited yet limitless wardrobe of occasion-less and inclusive range.

DETAIL

I designed a sustainable, interchangeable and adjustable range inspired by the current climate crisis

My final collection was made from dead-stock fabric with the exception of one cotton poplin, which i chose carefully considering it's timeless nature. Careful not to use any plastics or unnecessary metals and in order to fasten and secure the garment, it is full of gross-grain ribbon for an elegant look and inspired by the draping of roots beneath our foundations. The garments are Genderless, Season-less, occasion-less, ageless and Timeless, with adjustable ribbon features and hidden pockets. These items are made to fit any body type due to their adjustability and are a comfortable slouchy fit for any physique and age. My collection is interchangeable at the back panels of each jacket so that you can have multiple jacket options in only a few halves, this makes for a limited wardrobe to which you can switch up the fabric or length options for several looks weather you want two halves of the same look of switch different lengths and colours within each other.
