About Me

BITTER HOUND creates sustainable, queer inspired fashion.

BITTER HOUND is a sustainable fashion brand designed by Rebecca Connor, focused on making fashion accessible for all sexualities and genders. My queer sexuality protrudes into my design identity through learning how to create gender inclusive clothing and evolving a more morally and inclusively aware approach.

Entering into the world of fashion has showcased the impact of design and the power it holds to solidify identities or question them. The fashion school environment has allowed the opportunity to give my work purpose, learning the skills to manufacture trans inclusive garments and how to encompass my beliefs into my designs. Fashion can often be a forgotten tool to uncover and celebrate queer identities, yet design was a catalyst for my route of self-discovery and uncovered my queer design handwriting.

INSPIRATION

A collection inspired by my journey of self realisation and identification of being Queer

'My Big Fat Queer Wedding' begins by revisiting and researching moments in LGBTQ+ history, moments that changed my perspective on what being queer even was for me whilst acknowledging the privileges I have today because of these historical landmarks. The research producing a strong vision of how to fully represent Queer individuals, through producing a symbol of love for my community, a queer wedding.

I want my collection to feel personal and visually display my love for the queer community whilst addressing societal issues we still face today. By exposing the heteronormativity surrounding marriage and wedding attire I designed a collection of wedding inspired garments that showcases our gruesome history, poke fun at gender norms, all whilst having a playful camp aesthetic. Garments range from dresses to suits, all having traditional gender removed, then inserting back in a fun queerer way.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Garments are made using recycled wedding dresses and suits from divorced heterosexual couples

The collection will be completely gender free, made for large events where you want to stand out from the crowd, or a queer wedding! My collection is loud and bright using a lot of red and pink whilst contrasting with details of black and white. Creating high quality garments for the luxury fashion market, smaller simpler pieces being able to, in theory, go into production. The bigger, more extravagant pieces will be a one-off verging on Haute Couture pieces. The collection created through the freedom of draping on the stand alongside an equal balance of unconventional tailoring techniques. I want my collection to feel personal and visually display my love for the queer and trans community, through loving and commanding designs.

The collection exposing the core of my sexuality, a physical representation of what being Queer means to me, portraying my community’s horror filed past in a romantically Queer love story.
