About Me

Hi, I am Pan. A makeup & hair designer from Solent University.

As a make-up and hair designer, I am also an art director who can work within the different aspects of beauty and fashion that the industry requires to remain exciting, dynamic and relevant. I do this by questioning the traditional methods of seeing and engaging with editorial beauty, and through providing new paths to understanding identity.

In understanding my design ethos, it is clear that my work could be described as illustrative, androgynous, gender fluid and at times, minimalistic. This aesthetic sensibility has led the exploration of idea through not just fashion photography, but also art direction. As a result, my creative vocabulary has led to the redefinition of beauty and bodies, which currently has the opportunity to fundamentally change. My design often reflects on different social stereotypes as it aims to break boundaries and create a visual narrative that makes the audience reflect on different ideologies.

INSPIRATION

My Initial Inspiration started by starting illustrations and visualise my ideas on paper.

Gender expression and gender identity is central to informing my work. With this comes unapologetic visuals and an editorial approach that is informed and inclusively supportive of a range of communities. Looking through my work it is clear that my love of design comes from an interdisciplinary approach. Collaborating under the umbrellas of beauty, fashion, styling, and illustration, I am happy to explore my ideations as a visual narratives that rarely require further explanation.

Fashion and appearance I believe it is utilised to represent multiple identities through a visual indication or message.I take inspiration from designers and artists like John Galliano,Alvaro Mars, Auturo Obegero,Egon Schiele and Frida Kahlo as they successfully translated their ideas of gender in their own craft by blurring the lines that divide genders and giving visuals that make you think. My work often is a visual representation of gender exploration that touches topics like the body and expression.

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I created and directed this fashion film with a lot of artistic influences to strengthen the meaning

This project, “THEY”, is envisioning a modern take of Jung’s psychological theory of the anima and animus and playing with the idea of older art forms, something that relates with gender identity is the goth subculture. THEY is a marriage of these concepts, bringing the old and the new together to question what’s the future. “THEY” is a visual representation of gender exploration that touches topics like the body and expression through different forms of art discussing the spectrum of masculinity and femininity showcasing the fluidity of gender through the medium of film. “THEY” covers personal opinions of the people involved as it has an undertone of fashion journalism by using interviews. You don't have to Label everything, sometimes is better to sit back and absorb the beauty of it.
