About Me

OLIVIA IS A MENSWEAR GRADUATE FROM NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY.

Olivia's design is influenced by Haute Couture and bespoke tailoring techniques. She combines these techniques with new and upcoming inspiration from around the globe. She likes to reinvent vintage styles and garments that served a practical purpose to create functional and aesthetic design.

She aspires to create garments and creative solutions to combine both the progression of technology in fashion while honouring original hand-crafted techniques and elements of Atelier design.

INSPIRATION

MY INSPIRATION COMES FROM PULLING APART THE FUNDAMENTALS OF GARMENT CONSTRUCTION

Throughout my work a range of aspects influence me such as history, global issues, futurism, art, and new advances in technology. However, my main influence is the interaction between the user and the garment, whether that be functionality and practicality or the ability to change the wearer’s silhouette or even shield their identity.

To identify a balance between practicality, functionality and aesthetics I deconstruct elements of historic and vintage garments, taking inspiration and details to use and influence into contrasting elements of design. These elements could be shape, the way the garment falls or as simple as a fastening on a pocket. Along side this I look to designers known for looking outside the box and have an element of Avant- guard style to their work.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I DECONSTRUCTED THE BASIC GARMENTS THAT CREATE A SUIT AND RECONSTRUCTED THEM SECTION BY SECTION.

By using this technique, I was able to construct a shaped and bold figure. This style of working on the stand allows me to focus on how each section on the garment influences the fall, drape, and structure of those around it. Using techniques such as controlled pleating and gathering I was able to eliminate features such as vents to create aesthetically fluid figures while remaining practical.
