About Me

Hi, I’m María Camila, a final year student at Colegiatura Colombiana

I´m profoundly inspired by the way emotions narrate stories. My interest in storytelling through clothing has merged with my passion for ancestral techniques and botanics. I translate emotions into wearable pieces experimenting with natural pigments, silhouettes, and unique volumes.

During the pandemic I studied different textile intervention techniques, developing a new passion and perspective towards fashion, searching for a way to create wearable concept appealing pieces, and communicating emotional stories, with deep ancestral and spiritual meanings behind them, given by every technique I choose specially for every story. Since then, I´ve been exploring the artisan universe discovering different techniques, and turning them into my principal resource to conceptualize.

INSPIRATION

The warmth of your hug, the coldness of your absence

This project was a cathartic process for me, in which I expressed every saturated and contradictory emotion I felt after finishing a love relationship.

The love shared by soulmates who are physically distanced, but profoundly joined at vibrational levels makes this capsule traverse unimaginable limits. Through vibrant colors and rusty prints, emotions are translated, and the strength of a connection built layer by layer, in which the softness of an astral love and rigidity of the earthly absence coexist.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Oversized volumes and natural dyes as narration methods

My collection was focused on details that emphasized the narrative´s contrasts. Tighten pieces made of rigid fabrics interact with exaggeratedly wide pieces made of very light fabric, creating irregular volumes. Contrast between cold and warm colors, natural dyes, and factory dyed fabrics like denim.

I FIND IN FASHION A WAY OF PROCESSING EMOTIONS AND TRANSLATING SOMETHING SO ABSTRACT TO SOMETHING TANGIBLE “HAVE ENOUGH COURAGE TO TRUST LOVE ONE MORE TIME AND ALWAYS ONE MORE TIME ” - MAYA ANGELOU
