About Me

22 year old London based graduate.

I’m madison stares, just graduating from Nottingham Trent university having studied fashion design. As you’ll see throughout my work I take inspiration from not just present but history, collaborations and focus on more then just the physical garment. I hope the art I aim to express in my work is present throughout & gets the viewer thinking.

The roots to my homage of artwork within fashion, first stemmed from my studies in A-Level sixth form. I studied art, photography and sociology at queens school in watford not far from London. Having access to the galleries and exhibitions in London, and the knowledge I gained from all three subjects introduced me to the meaning and history of the cultures, not just in my studies but also around me. This is when I began using my surroundings as a source of inspiration. From there I completed an art foundation course which really channeled down my energy into fashion design & textiles.

INSPIRATION

‘Nature is a greatest ally and biggest inspiration.’ - David Attenborough 2020

looking into the art in our natural forms. In the current climate the outdoors was once again appreciated but the social life was missed. Fashion is taking a much more digital approach – marketing is shifting and slow fashion has a new platform to thrive on and reach more people. Brining the inspiration back to the problem - there’s natural art we are destroying. Making a collection inspired by, dedicated to and helping the the natural world. Quite literally echoing the authenticity of the art in nature.

Having looked at the artwork and designers already inspired by optical illusion. This is an art form relevant and recognised in the natural word also. Particularly in plants – colours, patterns and prints are a way of communicating, wether it be to lure insects in or warn other animals / insects away. The art of symmetry and illusion will inspire my prints but also the pattern cutting. The overall collection of products being unisex, with a neutral futuristic colour pallet.

EKKO -Defining An Era

‘How does nature without any kind of blueprint or design put together patterns like this? When we make patterns, it is because we planned it that way, putting the elements into place. In nature, there is no planner, but somehow natural forces conspire to bring about something that looks quite beautiful.’

‘There must be something in that system that has pulled it away from that pure randomness or at the other extreme, from pure uniformity.’
