Madalena was inspired by her grandparents garden and nature elements with consideration to its environmental impact and sustainability shown through the use of upcycled denim patchwork, fabrics with natural fibres and organic cotton.
My goal is to create a sustainable collection that reflects nature and the elements in the use of print and embroidery on simple, utilitarian pieces.
INSPIRATION
My intention with this collection was to create something that reflects nature, as my main reference I was inspired by my grandparents garden in Portugal. It is the place where I spent most of my childhood in. When on holidays and in family gatherings, I watched and helped my grandfather to work the land. I wanted to create something that people would wear when working the land and feel comfortable in, but also something they would wear supporting an outdoor, nature loving lifestyle.
Therefore this collection is very personal to me as it brings back many memories that I have experienced with my loved ones. It is fitting that the final garments were photographed in the special place where it all started.
DETAIL
By upcycling materials and opting to use natural fibres such as organic cotton, I am accomplishing my goal of having minimal fashion environmental impact. The garments feature natural elements as motifs, such as seed embroidery on denim patchwork pieces for the dungarees and detailed lavender flower hand embroidery on the jacket as well as floral prints on the shirt.
