About Me

HOLA! I'M LAURA GRADUATE FROM COLEGIATURA COLOMBIANA

Laura considers herself someone who is full of experiences generated from the complexity and richness of the cities in which she has lived in and that is why discomfort inspires her to take action and tell stories through her various collections during her time in university.

She was born in Colombia, moved to Canada when she was 11 years old and when the time came to decide which university she wanted to go she chose to move back to Colombia and reconnect with her roots and culture while studying fashion.Without limit of individuality, Laura likes to work with graphics that she takes from photographic abstractions, drawings, or things that are from places or people who inspire her through their art.

INSPIRATION

STREET CULTURE, THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY AND THE CONNECTION OF PEOPLE WITH NOSTALGIA.

Inspired by the fact that every person finds their identity and meaning of their life through links in the community, the natural world and it’s values. My collections all talk about the connection between where you come from and where you are going, the need of knowing your past, the consequence of the manifestations of our ego, and the reflections of our collective soul, all of this allowing us to become an unifying element within the different social realities.

Each garment tells a story, I celebrate the traditional crafts of multiple cities, tribes and cultures through textures/graphics using techniques such as embroidery, sublimation, stamping, painting. I also make stories visible like the origin and evolution of Hip Hop, racism and how fashion is political. The result is youthful and unconventional trying to give society a wake up call for respect from the richness of our differences.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I'VE USED DIFFERENT TYPES OF FABRICS AND TECHNIQUES TO CREATE MY GARMENTS

It all starts with conscious design, understanding how the streets unite a world full of feelings and passions, this spirit gives rise to an inclusive design for everyone. Each collection has it’s magic, the first ones are more experimental using unconventional materials, zippers, fique, denim, chains, laces. The other collections are more ready to wear but with a touch of experimental from embroidery or graphics. In wild for the night and urban nets I made a collaboration with a graffiti artist for the shoes, in the burning house with a photographer so I could use his pictures, and for skin tone I only used second hand garments made them into new ones, really tried to be 100% sustainable and only bought the handcrafted accessories from an indigenous community from el Choco.

"Fashion has hundreds of years of language, culture and wealth. Before clothing was about affiliation, now it is also about knowledge, and having a voice" Laura Gomez C.
