About Me

Hello, my name is Jayna Mistry, and I am a fashion graduate.

I was inspired by architecture, travelling overseas and locally to capture views of historical and contemporary architecture. I have chosen this concept as the form, structure and shape has an influential aesthetics towards my collection.

Architecture is a popular concept, being able to manipulate the shapes and structure that is gathered in which I wanted to create an outcome of being voluminous, structural, and unique. Creating a collection where it focuses solely on the shape and form of a building and developing the ideas of those chosen shapes into a garment which will also consist of details such as cuts, pleats, or drapes.

INSPIRATION

My idea started from a question about my hobbies that does not involve fashion.

“What do I like besides fashion?” Photography is the answer. Photography is a passion. Photography is relaxing. There is something about being free and travelling to unfamiliar places whether it is overseas or local. An opportunity to hold a camera in my hand and capture beautiful and unique photos of landscape and architecture. Freedom is what I feel when taking photos of landscape and architecture, being able to live in that moment and look at what is in front of you, not listening or talking, just look

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I used transformational reconstruction to replicate a building’s shape and form onto a garment.

Sampling and experimenting with transformational reconstruction, creating a new style line that is unique and can be called mine. Inspired by the concept’s shape and form, I experimented with how I can incorporate the details into my work. Given the concept name – Voluminous Architecture, I wanted to create a collection that is also voluminous. Exploring with unusual ways to combine transformational reconstruction with ruffles, giving that exciting look of being free and creative. Isolating my favourite shapes from my primary research has allowed me to create new silhouettes and manipulate further on the stand to create something even more different and special. The colour palette – Washed Out Concrete originated from the colours that can be visually seen in the images, white, black, greys and hints of blues. Taking photos of architecture has influenced me, being able to analyse key shapes and apply them onto a garment in which it is visually pleasing like when I look at architecture.

“Fashion is architecture. It is a matter of proportions.” – Coco Chanel
