About Me

Hi, I’m Issy, graduate from Nottingham Trent University.

I am currently specialising in Fashion Knitwear and Knitted Textiles but with a strong general background in Textiles.

Strong foundations in textile design from both academic and industrial experience have enhanced my appreciation of the production, properties and scope of different textile materials. This has underpinned my knowledge as a knitwear designer, informing my work to be more considered, technical and innovative. Choosing knitwear as a specialism was a conscious decision, as I’m inspired by the limitless possibilities by using textures, colours, patterns and structures to experiment with a wide variety of ideas, in order to maximize the potential of the materials.

INSPIRATION

Scottish Military Heritage

Reflection during these unprecedented times has reaffirmed my own personal appreciation of the importance of family and heritage. In a Post Modernism world, it seems more relevant to maintain a sense of personal identity and roots. Research into my ancestors, I was inspired by the challenges of the nomadic, military lifestyle faced by my grandfather, a officer in the Gordon Highlanders, and the associated Scottish heritage and regimental traditions.

A limitless potential for colour, print and texture, the traditional heritage of Gordon tartans, military uniforms and insignia gave great scope for exploration. The core concept of this collection was to create a collection of wearable pieces that are both durable and purposeful, linking to travel and the military, but equally, reimagined, contemporary, and stylish. The ethos is a celebration of past heritage, but an innovative modern-day relevance, creating new memories for the wearer.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Celebrating past heritage ,but updated and made relevant to modern-day womenswear design

Inspired by the life of my grandfather, traditional classic lines of military garments, such as trench coats and kilts, have been reshaped and modernised to create an AW Womenswear collection with a modern-day, contemporary, more inclusive twist. Traditional tartan structures have been disrupted and modernised through pleating and use of contrasting colours, assymetric patterns and shapes. Military-style trench coats featuring padded shoulders and strong lines, are embellished with military style buttons and trimmings, but constructed in bold, bright, contrasting colour panels. Tops featuring military-style padded shoulders are reimagined using contemporary textures and colours. All garments reflect a purposefulness as in military tradition, are multi-use and durable, functional and warm, yet exude style and contemporary edge. Pieces are designed to be worn as a one-off statement piece or as part of a layered look according to situation, weather etc.
