About Me

I am Flora Lindsay, a fashion designer about to start my MA at the RCA

Flora Lindsay is an enthusiastic designer with a vision to create change and spread love. I aspire to bring humanity back to the heart of fashion and take the focus from profit to people. Designing with a purpose of education, awareness and empowerment.

I have recently had the opportunity to complete my final collection, 'Warrior', in my 3rd year at Winchester School of Art. I focus on womenswear, but have used menswear as a foundational inspiration into the style and detail of the looks.

INSPIRATION

CHRISTIANITY X MOTORSPORTS X HISTORICAL ARMOUR

The collection aims to create clothes that represent a metaphorical ‘armour of God’; striving towards freedom and a future of hope, love and purpose. Through my research I aim to discover the possibilities of daring to be individual in a culture of comparison and subjective truth, looking at the opportunity to have free thinking and the freedom to express beliefs alongside looking at the relevance of truth in society to today.

I look into symbolism and deeper meaning through the use of iconography and ideas of revelation and concealment. The overlap with motor sports is a personal connection to the world that I have grown up in using primary research from my father’s motor racing albums. I zone into research of mens suiting and power dressing in relation to my themes, to create impactful looks. I aim to create a collection that people will question, becoming inspired and empowered, making an ‘army’ of hope.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

FREEDOM

Throughout history having religious beliefs have come with persecution and the ability to express those beliefs have been limited, leading to the creation of secret christian symbolism and iconography. I researched into how christianity was portrayed in art throughout the ages and the use of secret symbolism where it may have been forbidden to express ones beliefs. The world that we live in is incredibly diverse with beauty in every direction, the ability to be ‘free’ is the joy we experience everyday in a first world country. A couple of years ago I was faced with the reality of how prominent human trafficking is in modern day. Freedom is something we take for granted, but something we should strive for others to have. This has influenced the direction of my work and something I aim to take action against through using my designs as a platform to create awareness.
