About Me

Hi, I'm Filippo from Accademia Costume & Moda and this is "GACHO"

The project goal is to work and rework everything that initially does one doesn’t like or what is found on necessity to give it a new life, a new image. Everything is integrated into a single contrasting and harmonic image. 70's jackets are prolonged in westernized rebozos, old quills that become duvets, racing suits that are combined with tailored jackets.

The men's wools recovered from warehouse inventories, all starting in black and white, are dyed and embroidered in contrast to give it a new character, a single personality of their own, enhancing the existing design and creating a new one. The racing suits recovered in collaboration with Alpinestars, are disassembled and re-assembled to transform a specifically technical product into a product that can be worn every day.

INSPIRATION

And the story goes..

The “Gacho” capsule is inspired by the film “Gummo”. Through the eyes of a rabbit-boy, director Harmony Korine describes the life of Xenia, a small town in Ohio turned inside-out by a hurricane; From this Rabbit-boy start "GACHO", the project wants to tell and analyze his journey to rediscover his origins. Starting out in the Los Angeles suburbs, he delves into the cholo gangs he grew up with. In this sprawling and casual world he take what he finds, a pair of old motorcycle suits.

With this he leaves for Mexico. Gradually discovering the world and the traditions of his parents. Thus he begins to rewind himself in his mother's rebozos, large hand-woven shawls traditionally used by Mexican women to cradle their children. He will discover the work of his father, Malick Sidibé, a Malian photographer, falling in love with that fresh world of independence. To conclude and combine everything, the masks of the Mexican luchadors, symbol of a unique and personal style of fighting.

DETAIL

In the capsule the story is translated into a mix

The super-active elements of Alpinestars racing suits with 70's shapes and volumes gathered together by rebozos that weld together a composite image. All this takes place using fabrics recovered from warehouse funds, combined with an upcycling process of disused or racing suits.

"I knew a guy who was dyslexic. He was also cross-eyed. So everything came out right." Gummo, 1997.
