I believe fashion is a form of personal expression and holds the ability to send a powerful message to onlookers.
I am very inquisitive, and I like to think outside of the box. I believe sustainability is crucial for our future and I like to explore how politics can be intertwined through the design process. I find a lot of inspiration through exploring different cultures and using bold colours and prints.
INSPIRATION
My first collection was inspired by The Black Panther Party Uniform, for the brand Weekday. With the current political context running parallel to the themes that the Black Panther's fought for, I designed a collection with clear reference to the Black Panther Party. My second collection was inspired by the unearthly landscapes of the Danakil Depression in Ethiopia, for the brand Collusion. Formed by the movement of tectonic plates, the Danakil Depression consists of neon colours and irregular texture.
My third collection was inspired by the Japanese artist Hokusai, renowned for "The Great Wave". His unique artwork and soft colour palettes inspired my resort collection for the brand Jacquemus. My fourth collection was inspired by the Russian Matryoshka Doll, and the Extended Cold Weather Clothing Service used in the army. Using the idea of layering, I designed a modular collection and created 2 garments that can be interchanged to create an entire collection, for the brand Acronym.
DETAIL
I created 2 modular outfits for my Fashion Innovation module that can be interchanged, layered and built upon to create an entire collection. The collection is made up of 3 different layer: base-layer, mid-layer and outer-layer which can be worn interchangeably depending on how the wearer wants to build their outfit. To design this collection, I used the virtual design software Clo3D, I have attached a video with my designs and a virtual animation of the garment I designed.
