About Me

HI, IM EVELINA A GRADUATE FROM NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY

My research is based on my personal aesthetic, influenced by my early years in my home country Moldova and growing up during a time of change following the dissolution of the Soviet Union before leaving the country at the age of 6. Regular visits each summer to Moldova have cemented vivid and unforgettable memories of my home city.

I am a womenswear designer interested in denim, textile surfaces, embellishment and patterns. As a young creative fashion designer, my aim is to create sustainable designs and protect the environment and it's inhabitants at once.

INSPIRATION

A combination of my personal heritage along with sustainable denim designs

The Soviet Union and iconic 1960s films are the inspiration behind my final project called ‘Underground Chic’. The collection includes cultural elements of my childhood in Moldova and are combined with structured silhouettes and embellished with rhinestones inspired by the traditional Soviet scarf patterns. Denim and leather iconic jackets are reinterpreted with oversized silhouettes, strong structured shoulders, laser-etched patterns and embroidery.

In order to have a lower impact on the environment and society, this collection aims to source eco-friendly/deadstock/organic fabrics. With the ecological impact of denim production in mind, my passion to create sustainable denim designs and to push this idea to industry promoting a change has led me to fabric innovation. Using the embellisher machine, I was able to experiment with denim as a core cloth and a range of fibres and threads to create a small range of fabrics carrying in weight and density.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Scarf patterns are laser-etched on denim and embellished fabrics are embroidered and decorated

Traditional patterns taken from my Grandmother and Great Grandmother headscarf’s, memories from my childhood in Moldova, will be adapted and are used as embroidery layouts. Using the embellisher machine, I was able to experiment with denim as a core cloth and deadstock knitted and woven fabrics to add weight, colour and texture. The weight of the thread will enable the embroidery to be seen in contrast to the ‘melange’ colour and textured appearance I have created in the cloths.
