About Me

About me

My name is Esther Siehi and I am a British Ivorian fashion textiles designer who is driven by my culture and identity through art and this is expressed through hand drawings which is embedded in actisol photography. I believe that motifs in a print should be able to express meaning and tell a story that communicates a strong emotion and feeling.

As a Fashion textiles print designer, I would want to create a print that speaks volumes, that tells a story that will intrigue one to question and further translate it in various ways. Whilst studying fashion textiles I have created an aesthetic which allows me to create detailed digital graphic prints with an element of sketchy undertones and vivid bold hand drawings to add depth to the prints

INSPIRATION

souvenirs de notre identité

souvenirs de notre identité This is my concept . Photography is a language which allows us to capture memories and produce an archive which we treasure for the rest of our lives. This notion is inspired by the African wax cloth The African wax Dutch cloth conveys a metaphorical essence and inherent aesthetic through its symbolic usage. The cloth embodies depth and culture that is translated and presented through different tribes and motifs.

Textiles of the African wax cloth have always played an important role in African society. The cloth is turned into one identity in the African culture and is an indicator of wealth, power and status. This type of wax print in francophone West Africa is known as 'Payne', the significance of Payne is "the transfer of wealth". The Payne creates an archive, where intimate memories are formed and stored as in "Togo it is often said that a woman's life can be read through the Paynes she has.
