About Me

Ciao, I'm Cosimo and I'm a fashion graduate from ECA Edinburgh.

Cosimo is an Italian menswear designer who focuses on redefining the limitations of sustainable ready to wear aiming to celebrate the individuality of queer style and breaking the gender roles applied by society. He combines men’s tailoring and feminine lines using modern digital processes and traditional craftmanship with peccable attention to detail.

For my graduate collection ‘Something blue’, I wanted to revolutionize the lack of diversity in wedding wear. Unfortunately, same-sex weddings do not have a history or references on what to wear. This was the starting point, combining both gender sides towards a no binary feel to it. he wants people to feel proud and loved for who they are and celebrate it. Love has no gender.

INSPIRATION

My initial inspiration was looking into my History.

I wanted to create a collection that was very personal to me. I started looking into my history under three main topics: Oceanic feelings, Genderless love and Cats and femininity. Oceanic feeling’s theme is based on looking at the healing power of the ocean and how has been so important for me during my childhood. Genderless love is linked to the idea of 'union' and how it has a different meaning to me as it does to my family.

At least cats and femininity are the connection to my sexuality and my queer side. The textile translates my inquisitive character and controversial vision toward a modern taste in fashion.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Alternative to strict narrow definitions of men's tailoring.

This look represents my love for men’s tailoring with my own twist to the silhouette, leading towards a more genderless feel to it. The fabric used was donated by McQueen to Edinburgh University in 2018. After no one was willing to use it, I have decided to make it my own and elevate it using the dye process. After multiple attempts to find the right colour within my colour palette, I have dyed 2 meters of fabrics at the time. The fabric is composted by two fibers leading towards a diverse tone of the same colour within the fabric.

"I think masculinity is also a figure of beauty. You can be as beautiful as you want, whether male or female. I want to create costumes that make you feel free to be yourself" - Alessandro Michele
