About Me

Hi, Im Ellie a budding graduate from Northumbria University, Newcastle

Inspired by current issues, minorities, women’s rights, social paradox's and modern culture.

My message within my magazine Surviving & Thriving is to create an acute examination of life for Gen Z pre-Covid and after Covid 19. To examine the priorities of the upcoming generation as they plunge into the workforce after the pandemic which has made them re-question the stability and priorities that they once believed they had. A socially and creatively charged magazine with a big attitude and an optimistic look to the future.

INSPIRATION

My initial idea for my magazine began in Lockdown 1 In Derry City.

I initially began developing Surviving & Thriving during lockdown 1 which I spent at home in Derry in The North Of Ireland. At that stage of the pandemic when we were engulfed with uncertainties and frantic dread I began to look around me. It occurred to me at that moment that all we have is time, whether we have a little or a lot of it we can' control but what we can is how we utilize it. I was extremely inspired by people' personal growth stories in lockdown and how they used the time to invest in them.

The secondary inspiration for Surviving & Thriving was Gen Z, the generation to had their coming of age years drawn to a halt because of the pandemic. Those few years of youth and self-exploration were on pause but still, they persevered and from the pandemic came investment in self-care, business moguls and appreciation for surroundings, and a newfound appreciation for human relationships.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

This project was a labour of love and a real testament to what i would have needed during lockdown

Therefore by questioning the legitimacy of the constraints that society places on us as young people, Surviving & Thriving breaks away from that and celebrates whats ahead. The themes explored are based upon research and mirroring of previous global disasters into this creatively driven paradox to the life we knew before.Surviving & Thriving will be a physical manifestation of a generation who kicks societal standards and traditional expectations to the kerb. It will be glamorous, messy, spontaneous and most importantly current.

“People who’ve gone through trauma or struggle in the way that we are experiencing now, that struggle can simultaneously be distressing, but there is enormous growth, power and re-evaluation also"
