About Me

Carys Ward, Womenswear & Digital Design.

My collection, entitled Power House is an entirely virtual collection of luxury workwear for women taking inspiration from the hay day of power dressing in the 1980s and intersection with Welsh Heritage.

The aim of the collection was to create an empowering women’s workwear collection, taking silhouette shapes from Welsh Architecture by researching into my heritage and focusing on elements such as the traditional costume, coal mining, & love spoons that played a role in developing a colour palette, prints. I wanted to create durable, unique pieces that the wearer will value and feel confident within.

INSPIRATION

Power dressing x Welsh Architecture + Heritage.

The Powerhouse collection comprises many Welsh inspired fabrics such as the Welsh plaid similar to the prince of Wales tartan, and prints taking inspiration from Welsh Love Spoons & the Coal mining industry. The fabrics used to create the collection have long-lasting properties, making the collection as durable as possible. There is an emphasis on the shoulder area and proportions taking inspiration from Power Dressing and statement architecture of Wales.

This year the Fashion industry has brought many challenges. I created my entire collection using purely Clo3d, a new technology for me and one which I embraced. I think this will be the way forward within the Fashion industry to reduce waste, perhaps in fashion's future industry, we will see clothing being produced and created on a made to measure basis, which could be adapted to the wearers exact sizing and reduce overproduction, tackling dead stock issues.

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Combining old with new.

For this collection I have taken inspiration from a traditional way of wearing and making clothes combining it with modern technology to give you the very latest in fashion and design. The material that would have been used to make the traditional Welsh costume were organic natural and durable using materials such as wool as they were local. My inspiration for the Powerhouse collection of women's workwear was made during lockdown I took take inspiration from what was around me. My environment family and our history.
