About Me

HI, IM BURCU A GRADUATE FROM ARTS UNIVERSITY BOURNEMOUTH

I am an experienced graduate fashion design student, who has just completed my third year at Arts University Bournemouth with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Along with my professional career path, I have been working voluntarily for theatre productions, private events, several boutiques as a maker.

My design signature takes on innovative shape and bold use of color with traditional handcraft elements on modern luxury womenswear. I am passionate about researching ancient craft techniques and learning and modifying them to new designs. Passioned for handcrafts like needle lace, metal embroidery, and tablet weaving.

INSPIRATION

GOLDEN BRACELETS OF ANATOLIAN BRIDE

My Grandparents were part of the population exchange between Greece and Turkey. They brought very few of their belongings with them. Some items from my Grandma’s dowry as well as some of her advice and wisdom have influenced my collection. She advised me that every woman should have a golden bracelet on their arm which is a metaphor for every woman having an education. Every new skill that you learn adds an imaginary bracelet to your arm.

Dowry is an imaginary product that hosts experiences. It’s a combination of patience, grace, and creativity but also includes emotions and stories. Throughout history, Turks appear as pastoral nomads, this led me to discover ancient crafts and textiles that were passed through generations as cultural borrowings. My collection creates a modern twist on ancient techniques, making the ‘Golden Bracelet of Anatolian Bride’ collection a mode of art.

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I developed my collection by using Clo 3D and Lectra.

Although I like to be investigating heritage crafts, I also love working with digital software such as CLO3D, Lectra, which allows me to create perfect fit and animations for prototypes on virtual avatars before creating the physical garments.
