About Me

Hi, I'm Brijesh Sharma, a graduate of MMU

The pandemic forced us to hide away. But, in doing so, I began to discover myself, just like many others. I began to understand the ideals that I have always lived by and their particularly mundane yet most often misunderstood reasoning.

My aim with these two projects, and in general, is to help create an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued. All while helping others and myself understand the role that fashion can play in helping those that need it and generating work that brings positivity to their lives.

INSPIRATION

I generated silhouettes to depict spiritual growth, mapping out the seven Chakras.

The first project revolves around the core bases of spirituality. It attempts to understand and represent its complicated yet seemingly seamless ideologies. The concept derives itself from the human desire for perfection but finds itself at a different standpoint. Owing to the golden ratio, the understanding sets in that nature itself is perfectly imperfect. Something, we all realize this in our quests to find and cherish ourselves just as we are.

The second project, undertaken during a complete lockdown, looks at the serendipitous sky for inspiration. I realised that during all the lockdowns I lived through, staring at the sky through my window brought me immense refuge. Turning me to look inwards. This inspired me to generate a project that talks about the importance of getting the inside-outside and simply being ourselves regardless of gender. For that, too, is just a social construct, and clothing should be governed by it.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I generated silhouettes to depict spiritual growth, and hand stitch a garment in lockdown.

By following the base concepts and ideals of spirituality and its subsequent colour associations in my latest project, and those of self-expression and identity in my previous project, I expressed the co-relating births of my two projects. Metaphorically speaking, they represent and behave as the edges of a circle, perfectly smooth but with innumerable possibilities, just like every individual.

I hope that this portfolio brought some additional colour and light into your day during these dark times. And, I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.
