About Me

Creative Direction for Fashion graduate focused on mixed media

In my highly conceptual work I am dealing with topics such as cultural belonging, heritage and sustainable approaches to fashion. I enjoy combining as many creative tools and mediums as possible to creatively communicate my research driven ideas. In the past, I have created, photographic, web-design, audiovisual and musical outcomes as well as trend forecasts.

Throughout the three years studying Creative Direction for Fashion I have developed a sense of aesthetic direction: within my work I have developed elements of intentionally unfinished aesthetics in combination with minimalism. The aim of most of my projects is to emotionally connect with the audience through very personal audiovisual communication. In my work I express my perceptions of various positive and negative experiences that had a large emotional impact on me and by sharing them I am trying to connect with others.

INSPIRATION

I like to draw inspiration from as many (cultural) sectors as possible.

One of the biggest inspiration is mixed media and the creative freedom that comes with it, which allows me to combine all the skills gained on my journey as a creative. By that I can creatively express myself and connect with others, who might go through similar emotional experiences. In recent years, I have been focusing mainly on the matter of finding one’s identity and mental health issues connected to identity crisis.

Although I associate myself and my work with the fashion industry, I draw inspiration from fields that are not connected to fashion. By that I am trying to break the traditional, elitist approach to fashion. I am not afraid to explore fields such as biology, history, sound or performance. It is especially the innovative sector of biomaterials in fashion, which I recently got into for I chose this topic for my dissertation and which I would like to explore in my future fashion-related projects.

DETAIL

Video: “It Is Happening Now”

In this short video tape I portray a personal view on long-distance travelling and its negative impact on mental health through eyes of an international student. It introduces feelings associated with a long-distance journey while capturing a huge contrast between traveling as such and the mental limbo one can get into upon arrival at the final destination. Through video-observing myself, and my surroundings I am trying to present a new-age vlogging as a form of self therapy. The video is a part of my final university project, ‘Limbo’. With this multimedia project, I wanted to visually, verbally and sonically outline the feelings of urgent, agonising uncertainty and some of its symptoms – melancholy and daydreaming. By sharing the results of my own process of dealing with the predicament, I’m hoping the project will help others cope with and break out of this state.

I am using art as a form of communication with others to offer an understanding, connection and emotional support.
