The Raffles Fashion Design Bachelor Programme is composed of an international and diverse group of students who bring their distinctive home cultures and create contemporary, conceptual and high-end fashion creations. They are provided skills in pattern making, design research, CAD, draping and sewing in order to become future creative practitioners. Students are also exposed to the industry through competitions, field trips to fashion capitals of the world and undertaking internships.
The Director of Fashion (China) is Stefán A.R. Orschel-Read, himself a BA (Hons) graduate of Central St. Martins and a Masters graduate of the Royal College of Art. The Fashion Department is staffed with a team of fashion creative practitioners some of whom are past awardees and experienced designers. The Guangzhou Programme Coordinator is Mao Di Jennifer, who is an alumnus of the Raffles group, having earned her Masters in Fashion Design from the Raffles College of Design and Commerce in Sydney, Australia.
Many graduates have continued their studies in notable universities overseas, such as London College of Fashion, Bunka in Tokyo, and Savannah College of Art & Design in USA. Frequently current students start their own labels while still completing their studies; recently, Jimmy Lyu, a 2nd Year student was awarded a final place finish in the 2016 Chinese Project Runway. Final collections of students are also picked to be part of prestigious runway events. In 2016, Chelsea Huang and Olivia Ru had their collections showed at the Shanghai Fashion Week and Hong Kong Fashion week respectively.
