At the University of Portsmouth, our principle focus is on the student’s holistic learning of the design process and the acquisition of specialist skills that are relevant to the industry. Our students are taught how to develop an original design aesthetic; their creative potential is encouraged throughout their study. Our teaching principles are centred on a profound respect for traditional studio practice and craftsmanship supported by a research led team of lecturers who have a broad range of experience in across the fashion and textiles industry.
Our curriculum is enhanced by visiting lecturers, speakers and industry leaders; allowing our students to participate in and shape the most current trend forecasts and debates pertinent to the fashion and textiles industry. The career-focussed Masters programme we offer emphasizes the importance of adaptability and social and environmental awareness within the future of the fashion and textile industries. Through an innovative educational experience this course offers graduates, budding entrepreneurs and those coming from industry the opportunity to develop their own fashion and/or textile practice and become successful innovators and leaders in their own right.
All our students are supported by highly skilled workshop technicians from a wide range of backgrounds including textile print and dye, digital fabric print, pattern cutting, garment construction, laser cutting, 3D printing, CG animation, motion capture, photography, film and IT.
